As Director of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), I have been asked to reply to your recent question asking for the number of people aged (a) between 65 and 69, (b) between 70 and 74, (c) between 75 and 79 and (d) 80 or over in each region within Great Britain.The following table provides the information for the ages requested for each region within Great Britain. These are the mid-1997 population estimates compiled by ONS for England and Wales and by the General Register Office for Scotland, which are the most recent available.
