§ Mr. Charles ClarkeThe following table shows the target and actual intake to initial teacher training for the year 1998–99. We continuously monitor recruitment to initial teacher training in order to be responsive to supply and demand. A £130 million package of short-term measures designed to boost teacher recruitment, particularly in the key subject areas of mathematics and science, was announced by my hon. Friend the Minister for School Standards on 27 October. Details of this have been placed in the Library.
