Mr. Rowlands

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what estimate he has made of the number of people taken on by training and enterprise councils under the New Deal arrangements. [60413]

Mr. Hain

One Training and Enterprise Council in Wales has signed a New Deal employer agreement. By the end of October 1998, no New Deal participants had been recruited by Training and Enterprise Councils.

Mr. Rowlands

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what estimate he has made of the number of people taken on by(a) health authorities and (b) health trusts under the New Deal arrangements. [60411]

Mr. Hain

Sixteen Health Trusts and one Health Authority in Wales have signed New Deal employer agreements. By the end of October 1998, five New Deal participants had been recruited by Health Trust and none by Health Authorities.

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what estimate he has made of the number of people taken on under the New Deal arrangements by non-departmental bodies in receipt of grant aid from his Department. [60536]

Mr. Hain

By the end of October 1998, no New Deal participants had been recruited by Non-Departmental Public Bodies in receipt of grant aid from the Welsh Office.

I and my Ministerial colleagues will be writing shortly to all Non-Departmental Public Bodies funded by the Welsh Office to encourage them to recruit New Deal participants.
