HC Deb 19 November 1998 vol 319 c780W
Mr. Rowlands

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport how many people within his Department have been employed under the New Deal arrangements. [60373]

Mr. Chris Smith

I regret that it has not been possible to provide an answer before prorogation. I shall therefore write to my hon. Friend and place a copy of my reply in the Libraries of the House.

Mr. Rowlands

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what estimate he has made of the number of people taken on under the New Deal arrangements by non-departmental bodies in receipt of financial support from his Department. [60522]

Mr. Chris Smith

Non-departmental sponsored bodies have been encouraged to take on New Deal recruits. The National Lotteries Charities Board has plans to pilot the scheme with a view to taking on up to 18 New Deal recruits, and the Broadcasting Standards Commission are considering New Deal applicants to fill a current vacancy.
