Mr. Spellar

This is a matter for the Chief Executives of the Agencies concerned. I have asked the Chief Executives to write to the hon. Member.

Letter from S. J. Lloyd to Mr. Matthew Taylor, dated 19 November 1998: I am replying to your questions to the Secretary of State for Defence about Agency Staff Newsletters as this matter falls within my area of responsibility as Chief Executive of the Joint Air Reconnaissance Intelligence Centre Defence Agency. There were three questions posed concerning the classification, frequency of production and the date of initial issue of the publication. The Joint Air Reconnaissance Intelligence Centre Defence Agency newsletter entitled 'Lynx' is an unclassified document produced as a suggested management aid to the move to Agency status. Its continued production is in support of the communication activity linked to retention of Investors In People accreditation. The publication is produced on a quarterly basis. To date there have been seven editions with issue number eight almost ready to go to press. The first edition was issued in the Autumn of 1996. I hope that the above answers fully the questions posed.

Letter from I. G. McIntyre to Mr. Matthew Taylor, dated 19 November 1998: I am replying to your Question to the Secretary of State for Defence about the publication of newsletters as this matter falls within my area of responsibility as Chief Executive of the Defence Dental Agency. The Defence Dental Agency produces an unclassified Newsletter on a quarterly basis. The first issue was produced in September 1996. The Newsletter is supplemented by a further unclassified publication known as "Root Issues".

Letter from Alan Cowpe to Mr. Matthew Taylor, dated 19 November 1998: I am replying to your Question to the Secretary of State for Defence about the publication of newsletters, as this matters falls within the responsibility of the Air Secretary as Chief Executive of the Royal Air Force Personnel Management Agency. The Air Secretary is absent on duty so I am replying on his behalf. The RAF Personnel Management Agency produces an unclassified newsletter on a monthly basis. The first newsletter was produced in October 1996.

Letter from P. A. Flanagan to Mr. Matthew Taylor, dated 19 November 1998: I am replying to your question to the Secretary of State for Defence about the current security classification of the newsletter produced by the Logistic Information Systems Agency, how often it is produced and when it was first produced. The newsletter, called Insight, has no security classification, it is produced 6 times a year and was first produced in November 1997. The newsletter is distributed internally to all members of staff. Additionally the Training and Personnel Division produce an unclassified monthly newsletter, this was first produced in June 1997, this is distributed monthly to all LISA staff.
