To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what conditions were placed on General Pinochet's recent entry to the United Kingdom. [60499]

Senator Pinochet was granted leave to enter for six months' Employment and recourse to public funds was prohibited, in accordance with the Rules.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the extradition requests received concerning General Pinochet; and if he will make a statement. [60466]

Mr. Straw

I received a formal request for the extradition of Senator Pinochet from the Spanish Government on 11 November 1998. Later the same day, I received a formal request from the Swiss Government. I received a formal request for the extradition of Senator Pinochet from the French Government on 13 November 1998.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what discussions with the Chilean authorities were held by officials of(a) his Department and (b) the Immigration Service prior to the entry of General Pinochet to the United Kingdom from Chile. [60465]

Mr. Straw

No such discussions were held by officials of my Department, including those in the Immigration Service, prior to the entry of Senator Pinochet.
