HC Deb 19 November 1998 vol 319 cc853-5W
Mr. Jack

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will list the current number of centenarians by county. [60495]

Ms Hewitt

The information requested falls within the responsibility of the Director of the Office for National Statistics. I have asked him to reply.

Letter from Tim Holt to Mr. Michael Jack, dated 19 November 1998: As Director of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), I have been asked to reply to your recent parliamentary question asking for the current number of centenarians by county. The ONS produces population estimates for local authority districts in England and Wales for all ages up to the age group 85 years and over. Therefore, the centenarians are included in this group and cannot be separately identified. The attached table provides the mid-97 population estimates for those aged 85 years and over by county and Unitary Authority.
