To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what amounts have been available in other EU member states for agricultural compensation since 1 May 1997(a) directly from the EU budget and (b) as permitted by the Commission from member states' budgets; and what percentage of this has been claimed. Apart from the UK only three other Member States, Sweden, Italy and Ireland have been eligible for agrimonetary compensation since 1 May 1997. According to information supplied by the Commission, aid available from 1 May 1997, and amounts claimed, in these Member States is as follows:
