HC Deb 18 November 1998 vol 319 cc667-8W
Mr. Colvin

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions (1) when the Highways Agency will hand over responsibility for trunk roads to county councils; [59891]

(2) how soon standard spending assessments will be adjusted to take account of additional responsibility placed on county councils of maintaining, repairing and improving trunk roads. [59892]

Ms Glenda Jackson

The transfer of non-core trunk roads to local highway authorities is expected to take some years to complete. It is intended that standard spending assessments will be adjusted to coincide with actual transfers. We published on 11 November a paper setting out how it is planned to take forward the detrunking proposals and I have arranged for copies to be placed in the Library.
