HC Deb 18 November 1998 vol 319 c665W
Mr. McGrady

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what representations he has received from the Minister for Energy in the Republic of Ireland concerning the commissioning of the mixed oxide plant at Sellafield; and what response he has made. [59211]

Mr. Meale

Mr. Jacob has written to my Department raising concerns about the Environment Agency's proposed decisions on the Sellafield discharge authorisations and the operation of the Mixed-Oxide Plant at Sellafield. Requests have been made to Ministers to call in the applications for their own determination. In reply, we are assuring Mr. Jacob that his concerns and, indeed, all representations on the applications, are being carefully considered. My right hon. Friends the Secretary of State and the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food will announce their decisions as soon as they are able to do so.
