HC Deb 18 November 1998 vol 319 c618W
Mr. McGrady

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what plans she has to introduce new roads infrastructure schemes in South Down. [59538]

Mr. Paul Murphy

Responsibility for the subject in question has been delegated to the Roads Service under its chief executive, Mr. W. J. McCoubrey. I have asked him to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from W. J. McCoubrey to Mr. Eddie McGrady, dated 17 November 1998: The Secretary of State for Northern Ireland has asked me to respond to your recently tabled PQ about new road infrastructure proposals in South Down. In addition to a significant programme of road maintenance and minor road works schemes, Roads Service proposes to provide a by-pass of Ballynahinch. The scheme is included in the 6-15 year major road works programme and will be implemented at a pace dictated by future funding levels and the priority awarded to such schemes by the new Northern Ireland Assembly. I hope you find this helpful.
