HC Deb 18 November 1998 vol 319 c684W
Mr. David Taylor

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what steps he has taken to encourage caterers and processors to source pigmeat from the UK. [57788]

Mr. Morley

[holding answer 3 November 1998]: The Government. supported by the Meat and Livestock Commission, launched a campaign in July, aimed at the catering and food service sector with the aim of increasing the use of UK pigmeat in this important sector.

The campaign was completed on 16 November when the pig producers and processors were brought together with the catering and food service sector with the aim of finding a mutual interest in developing trade between the sectors. This action will help our Industry to find new opportunities for pigmeat produced in the UK.
