§ Mr. MudieThe Department for Education and Employment had received requests to revise out of date materials for some time before the UK's 1998 Presidency of the EU. These requests were fed to the Department through various consultative bodies such as the Central Bureau for Educational Visits and Exchanges and the Qualification and Curriculum Authority, and in informal meetings with teachers and their representatives.
