HC Deb 18 November 1998 vol 319 c685W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the nutritional value of(a) frozen food and (b) food which is fresh or has been chilled. [59767]

Mr. Rooker

MAFF continuously monitors the nutritional value of food at the retail level. Chilled, frozen, canned or dried foods such as fruit and vegetables are a convenient way of adding variety to the diet and can be as nutritious as fresh produce. Although nutrient losses may occur in some foods during storage or processing, as well as during cooking at home, these losses are not of major significance in a mixed diet.
