HC Deb 18 November 1998 vol 319 c696W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what plans he has to ensure that there is a sufficient supply of skilled and trained applicants from Deeside for jobs from Deeside employers; and if he will make a statement. [60558]

Mr. Hain

The Welsh Office supports an extensive set of programmes available throughout Wales to help employers improve the skills of their employees, to provide young people and unemployed adults with the skills needed by employers and, through the New Deal, to help disadvantaged groups increase their employability, find work and remain in employment. The new economic agenda for Wales, "Pathway to Prosperity", highlights the importance of education, training and lifelong learning in meeting our economic objectives.
