To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what was the maximum available Maintenance Award (or Maintenance Award plus Student Loan Company Ltd Student Loan) in(a) 1968, (b) 1972, (c) 1977, (d) 1982, (e) 1987, (f) 1992 and (g) 1997 using 1997 as the reference year. [60009]

The information requested is set out in the table.

The figures represent the standard maintenance allowance (SMA) and, where appropriate, the full-year student loan available to an undergraduate student attending a standard length course and living away from the parental home outwith London. No account has been taken of means testing.

The rates used applied in the academic years quoted.
