HC Deb 16 November 1998 vol 319 cc377-8W
Mr. Charles Kennedy

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list those companies to which the rights to charge and to collect tolls on the Skye Bridge are currently assigned. [59976]

Mr. Macdonald

The Secretary of State has assigned his rights to charge and collect tolls on the Skye Bridge to Skye Bridge Tolls Ltd (now Skye Bridge Ltd), in accordance with the provisions of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.

Mr. Charles Kennedy

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if the Skye Bridge toll order was printed and sold. [59975]

Mr. Macdonald

The Invergarry-Kyle of Lochalsh Trunk Road (A87) Extension (Skye Bridge Crossing) Toll Order 1992 (S.I.1992/1501) is a local order in terms of Regulation 4 of the Statutory Instrument Regulations 1947. As such, it was not required to be printed and sold. The Order was not subject to Parliamentary procedure. It complied fully with the procedures required in terms of the Roads (Scotland) Act 1984 as applied to the Order by the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991.

Mr. Charles Kennedy

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he has provided Miller Civil Engineering with a certificate demonstrating their lawful entitlement to perform the statutory function of toll collection on the Skye Bridge; and if he will make a statement. [59977]

Mr. Macdonald

No such certificate is necessary. Miller Civil Engineering Ltd, as part of their involvement in operating the Bridge, collect tolls on behalf of Skye Bridge Ltd, to whom the Secretary of State assigned the right to charge and collect tolls.
