HC Deb 16 November 1998 vol 319 cc382-3W
Mr. Clappison

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what arrangements are in place to ensure that young offenders at Medway Secure Training Centre receive a school placement on completion of the custodial part of their sentence. [59406]

Mr. Boateng

Individually tailored training plans include an education programme and are drawn up jointly by the trainee's key worker at the Secure Training Centre and the supervising officer from the home area. The supervising officer provides continuity throughout the sentence and helps ensure, as far as is practicable, that arrangements are in place for the trainee to return to full time education on release.

Staff at the Secure Training Centre are encouraged to contact relevant Educational Welfare Officers to discuss trainees' training plans and to contact Chief Education Officers at the beginning and end of the period in custody.
