HC Deb 16 November 1998 vol 319 c336W
Mr. Baker

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what role the Commission for Integrated Transport will play in helping to ensure that financial inconsistencies between the criteria for road and rail projects are eliminated. [59691]

Ms Glenda Jackson

The Government have stated in the White Paper "A New Deal for Transport" that they are developing a new approach to the appraisal of different solutions to transport problems, and that they intend that this approach should be applied to the appraisal of all transport projects, including proposals for all road schemes. The Commission for Integrated Transport, in providing independent advice to the Government, will be reviewing and monitoring progress towards the objectives set out in the White Paper.
