§ Mr. MacdonaldResponsibility for fisheries management in rivers rests with riparian owners and, where appropriate, District Salmon Fishery Boards. Scottish Natural Heritage also has certain responsibilities, particularly in the light of the Habitats Directive.
Payments for measures to improve riparian habitats are available to agricultural enterprises under the Environmentally Sensitive Areas and Countryside Premium Schemes which are administered by The Scottish Office.
Grants are also available from SNH for habitat improvement works in Scottish rivers. District Salmon Fishery Boards may participate in such works. Information on the sums Boards may have received is not available centrally.
