HC Deb 12 November 1998 vol 319 c286W
Ms Lawrence

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what plans he has to make adjustments to the distribution of revenue support grant for 1998–99 to local authorities in Wales. [59874]

Mr. Michael

An unfortunate error in the data used to determine individual authorities' standard spending assessments has been discovered. The effect is that one authority's revenue support grant entitlement should have been about £171,000 lower than originally calculated, and the grant for the other 21 authorities should have been a total of about £171,000 more. Whilst this represents a very small proportion of the revenue settlement this year, I consider it right and fair to correct the position through an amending report under section 84A of the Local Government Finance Act 1988. I intend that the report should be debated by the House next year; at the same time as the local government finance report for 1999–2000.
