To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what action he is taking to provide public information about genetically modified food. [58788]

The Government are committed to providing consumers with the information that they need to be able to make informed choices about genetically modified (GM) foods. The UK played a major role in the production of the recent EC legislation that requires all foods containing GM soya or maize to be clearly labelled. In addition, MAFF has produced a Foodsense booklet on the impact of biotechnology on food production which has been widely distributed; this is currently being up-dated. Last year MAFF co-sponsored the Science Museum's Future Food mobile exhibition that provided information on the impact of biotechnology on food production. This is now touring the regions.
