HC Deb 12 November 1998 vol 319 c264W
Mr. Evans

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment if he will list the areas of responsibility within his Department which have seen the largest real-terms increase in spending since 1 May 1997; and if he will make a statement on the outcomes. [59458]

Mr. Mudie

The areas which have seen the greatest increases in spending in real terms between 1996–97 and the plans for the current financial year are: schools capital (including the New Deal for Schools); specialist schools; local government education standard spending; and the new programmes on class size reduction; on literacy and the National Grid for Learning within the Standards Fund; and the New Deals within the Welfare to Work programme.
