§ Ms Glenda JacksonThere is no legal requirement for the speedometers in either fare stage buses or coaches to be recalibrated. The Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations 1986 require that speedometers must be maintained in a good working order. If the vehicle is fitted with a speedometer in accordance with either EC Directive 75/443EEC or UN ECE Regulation 39, then the accuracy requirements are that the speed indicated by the speedometer must never be less than the true speed at which the vehicle is travelling.
