HC Deb 09 November 1998 vol 319 c67W
Mr. Spring

To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport what guarantees his Department has made in monetary terms to(a) arts, (b) sport, (c) charities, (d) heritage, (e) projects to mark the Millennium and (f) the New Opportunities Fund. [58020]

Mr. Chris Smith

As a result of my Department's overall settlement from the Comprehensive Spending Review, I have been consulting on my proposals for the allocation of the £290 million additional investment which I have received. This is investment for reform and modernisation and in exchange I expect to see improvements in efficiency, access and modernisation. I anticipate being able to provide institutional allocations in early December.

The arts, sport, heritage and charities Lottery good causes can now plan on receiving an extra £50 million by the end of the present licence period in September 2001, bringing their forecast income by then to over £1.85 billion each. Thereafter they have each been guaranteed one sixth of Lottery revenues for good causes.

The Millennium Commission has been guaranteed an income of £2.017 billion over its funding lifetime.

The New Opportunities Fund will receive around £1.2 billion during the licence period. Once the millennium stream has closed down, NOF's share of Lottery revenues will rise to one third.
