HC Deb 09 November 1998 vol 319 cc86-7W
Mr. Lidington

To ask the Secretary of State for Health in what circumstances a dentist can enrol on a course on(a) peer review and (b) clinical audit without first being given a dental vocational training number. [58091]

Mr. Milburn

Participation in peer review and clinical audit schemes is of most benefit to principal general dental practitioners. A dentist without a vocational training certificate cannot join a peer review and clinical audit groups or receive expenses payments for attending their meetings. However, arrangements can be made for dentists seeking to acquire a vocational training certificate to sit in as an observer on a group and attend relevant study days in the local vocational training scheme without charge.
