HC Deb 05 November 1998 vol 318 cc676-7W
Ms Buck

To ask the Secretary of State for Health what was the level of personal social services expenditure for each local authority in England and Wales for(a) 1994–95,(b) 1995–96, (c) 1996–97 and (d) 1997–98; and what is the percentage variation against standard spending assessment in each case. [58092]

Mr. Hutton

Details of personal social services expenditure by each local authority in England for 1994/95, 1995/96 and 1996/97 are available in the form of computer tables on the DH World Wide Web pages Internet referencehttp://www.open.gov.uk/doh/public/pss stat.htm. Actual expenditure figures for 1997/98 are not yet available.

Copies of four tables which set out for each year by local authority, standing spending assessment, net expenditure and the percentage variation in each case have been placed in the Library. The figures on expenditure in the tables placed in the Library have been adjusted by Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions statisticians to make them comparable with standard spending assessments. This has meant excluding expenditure supported by special and specific grants and making some other technical changes.

Figures for Wales are the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
