HC Deb 05 November 1998 vol 318 cc658-9W
Mr. Laurence Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment how many(a) solicited and (b) unsolicited copies of the schools pack "Partners in Europe" were distributed; and how many remain in stock. [58030]

Mr. Mudie

The information and resource pack for schools "Partners in Europe" was distributed in January 1998 to all schools in the UK on the following basis: two to each school in England, one to each school in Scotland, two to each school in Wales and two to each school in Northern Ireland. Each country was responsible for its own distribution. Copies were also sent to LEAs in England, Scotland and Wales, Education and Libraries Boards in Northern Ireland and organisations such as the Central Bureau for Educational Visits and Exchanges, the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority and OFSTED. Since the initial distribution, there have been 614 requests in England for additional copies. 432 resource packages are currently in stock, but this figure includes the resource pack that was distributed to youth groups in the UK.

Mr. Laurence Robertson

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Employment what were the(a) printing, (b) preparation and (c) distribution costs of the schools pack "Partners in Europe". [58029]

Mr. Mudie

The costs of producing the 66,000 copies of the schools pack "Partners in Europe" were shared between the four UK education departments and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. The costs were as follows: (a) printing of specially commissioned booklets and wallets, £129,140; (b) other preparation costs, £66,197, and (c) initial distribution costs, £113,947.
