To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what percentage of residential property in England, by regions, is owned on a leasehold basis. [58546]

Mr. Raynsford

The Survey of English Housing for 1996–97 found that 14 per cent. of residential properties in England were owned on a leasehold basis. The regional distribution is shown in the table:
