HC Deb 05 November 1998 vol 318 cc665-6W
Mr. Letwin

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list the regulations which apply to the transport of blood of cattle over 30 months, following their slaughter. [58246]

Mr. Rooker

[holding answer 3 November 1998]: Carriers of waste blood from OTMS animals must register with the Environment Agency or the Scottish Environment Protection Agency under the Controlled Waste (Registration of Carriers and Seizure of Vehicles) Regulations 1991. The only exception relates to the transport of blood from diseased animals, which may be transported by persons who hold an approval or registration under the Animal By-Products Order 1992, and who transport the blood in connection with the activity to which the approval or registration applies. In such cases the Order requires the blood to be collected and transported in suitable containers or vehicles in such a way as to prevent leakage.
