§ Mr. George HowarthThe report by Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons on Aylesbury Young Offenders Institution was published on 28 October 1998.
The report contained no recommendations to the Secretary of State, but 160 to the Director General, the area manager and the governor. Under the protocol for handling reports agreed between the Director General and the Chief Inspector last year, the Prison Services gives consideration to each recommendation and draws up a response and action plan within 30 days of publication.
The action plan is kept under close review by senior managers and is available, in an updated form, to the Chief Inspector when he undertakes a follow up inspection.
