HC Deb 04 November 1998 vol 318 c575W
Mr. Chaytor

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what representations he has received concerning demands for payments by freeholders for retrospective consents relating to planning applications; what plans he has to investigate such cases; and if he will make a statement. [57941]

Mr. Raynsford

We have received a number of representations from leaseholders regarding unreasonable charges being made for the granting of consent. We have also received similar representations in relation to estate rent charges. These are both issues which we will consider as part of our current review of the leasehold system. We hope to issue a consultation paper on leasehold reform shortly.
