HC Deb 04 November 1998 vol 318 c567W
Mr. Ottaway

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions when he expects the Jubilee Line extension to be operational. [57606]

Ms Glenda Jackson

London Transport, following advice from Bechtel (the international company appointed to oversee the run up to line opening) now plan to open the Jubilee Line Extension in three phases, beginning at the eastern end of the line. The first stage will be Stratford to North Greenwich, in late spring 1999. The second stage (late summer 1999) will see opening through to Waterloo. The final stage (late autumn 1999) will be total line opening, including linking with the existing Jubilee Line.

Mr. Ottaway

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions if he will give the current construction cost estimate for the Jubilee Line extension; and what was the estimate a year ago. [57466]

Ms Glenda Jackson

London Transport review Jubilee Line Extension cost estimates regularly. The latest estimate of final cost is £2.85 billion. At this time last year it was £2.76 billion.
