HC Deb 04 November 1998 vol 318 cc613-4W
Mr. Maclean

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what has been the total public expenditure, in current prices, on agriculture in the United Kingdom for each year from 1975 to date; and what are the planned totals, in current prices, for each year covered by the Government's Comprehensive Spending Review. [57501]

Mr. Byers

[holding answer 2 November 1998]: The historical figures for public expenditure on agriculture in the UK can be obtained from "Agriculture in the UK" publications, and the GDP deflator series from the Treasury's deflator table (available in the House of Commons Library). The latest estimate for 1998–99 UK expenditure is £3,466 million. The UK totals for the years 1999–2000 to 2001–02 have not yet been finalised.
