§ Janet AndersonThe International Passenger Survey estimates that 626,000 overseas visitors to Britain arrived through Manchester airport in the first eight months of 1998. The total number of overseas visitors to the United Kingdom in the year to date is 17,290,000, of which 3.6 per cent. were arrivals through Manchester airport. It is estimated that the vast majority of visitors from abroad arriving in the UK through North-West airports do so through Manchester airport.
