Mrs. Beckett

As President of the Council, I am responsible for the work of the Privy Council Office. As Leader of the House of Commons, I uphold the rights and privileges of the House. I chair the Select Committee on the Modernisation of the House of Commons.

I am responsible for the arrangement of Government business in the Commons and for planning and supervising the Government's legislative programme. I chair the Ministerial Committees on the Queen's Speeches and Future legislation (QFL), Legislation (LEG), the Ministerial Sub-Committee on Health Strategy (HS(H)) and the Ministerial Groups on Food Safety (MISC1) and on the Millennium Date Change (MISC4). I am the Cabinet Minister responsible for overseeing preparations for addressing the Millennium bug. I also sit on a number of other Cabinet Committees and Sub-committees.

Together with the Minister for the Cabinet Office, I also act as spokesperson for the Government.
