To ask the Secretary of State for Wales by what amounts he has assisted MIND in Wales in the last three years; and if he will make a statement. [57443]

Under the Mental Illness Strategy the Welsh Office has paid or allocated the following grant assistance to MIND in Wales in the financial years 1996–97 to 1998–99:

1 Grant awarded under the National Voluntary Organisations element of the Mental Illness Strategy and contributes to MIND Cymru's core costs
2 Grants awarded to local MIND Groups under the Support for People with Disabilities Grant Scheme and for 1996–97 and 1997–98 the Local Voluntary Organisations (LVO) element of the Mental Illness Strategy. From 1998–99 the LVO scheme was replaced by the Local Mental Health Grants Scheme which is administered on behalf of the Welsh Office by the Wales Council for Voluntary Action. Grant awards to local MIND groups are project based and cover a number of activities including drop-in facilities; befriending services; provision of supported accommodation and advocacy services
