To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will list the budgets he has allocated in the financial year 1998–99 to each country under his Department's Link into Latin America trade programme. [57026]

Mr. Wilson

[holding answer 28 October 1998]: In 1998–99, the countries covered by the 'Link into Latin America' campaign have been allocated a total promotional budget of £780,000. This includes a budget of £440,000 for a targeted export initiative for Brazil, in the context of Mercosur, arising out of the recommendations of the 1997 Export Forum report. The remainder of the budget is spread across multi-country events and other market specific activities. In addition, the Department provides support for activities such as trade missions to and overseas trade fairs in Latin America through a range of other more general schemes.
