§ Mr. Chris SmithSubject to Parliamentary approval of the necessary Supplementary Estimate, the cash limit for Class X, Vote 1 will be increased by £7,029,000 from £878,787,000 to £885,816,000 and the gross running costs limit increased by £2,243,000 from £28,721,000 to £30,964,000.
This is to provide for increases in provision of £1,700,000 for the British Library St. Pancras project; £236,000 on the refurbishment of Somerset House for the housing of the Gilbert Collection; £1,500,000 for the refurbishment of the Royal Naval College, Greenwich; a transfer of £1,350,000 from the Department for Education and Employment (Class IX, Vote 1) for awards to dance and drama students; £2,243,000 to meet the general running costs of DCMS, full take up of DCMS/OFLOT running costs end year flexibility amounts as announced by the Chief Secretary to the Treasury on 14 July 1998, Official Report, columns 131–36.
The increases will be offset by transfers, savings or charged to the Reserve, and will not, therefore, add to the planned total of public expenditure.
