What was the number of deaths from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease in each of the years 1980 to 1997 inclusive recorded on death certificates and collated under the relevant International Classification of Diseases in the statistics published by the Office of Population, Censuses and Surveys. [HL1847]

In the absence of the Director of the Office for National Statistics (ONS), I have been asked to reply to your parliamentary question on the number of deaths from Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

The information requested for the years 1980 to 1996 inclusive is published in the ONS (formerly the Office of Population, Censuses and Surveys) annual reference volume Mortality Statistics: cause, England and Wales, series DH2, nos. 7–23, copies of which are available in the House Library. The data are shown in the attached table.
