Data are collected through the Housing Subsidies and Grants Claim form by the Department on potential rent income and on actual rent outstanding at the end of the latest financial year. Deducting the latter from the former would provide an estimate of the current year's rent collected within the year. However, these particular responses on the form are not audited, the figures would not cover any rent collected after the end of the year, and not all authorities provide the rent outstanding figures.
The Audit Commission's Citizen Charter performance indicators for local authorities include an indicator on the percentage of rent collected.
