§ Clare ShortUNICEF takes the lead in the international community in promoting the rights of children as set out in the International Convention on the Rights of the Child. As the major advocate for the rights of the child in Indonesia, UNICEF is working with the Government on legal reforms relating to the elimination of hazardous employment of children, juvenile justice, child abuse and neglect, as well as sexual exploitation.
The Department for International Development is preparing a regional strategy to help tackle the problem of child labour in South East Asia. The need for children to be educated about their rights will be assessed during the preparation of this strategy.
