§ Angela EagleMy Department has not carried out any life cycle analysis on disposable nappies. The Environment Agency are aware of a number of inconclusive studies comparing the merits of disposable and non-disposable nappies. They are developing computer software to enable industry to conduct life cycle analyses for individual waste streams, and will be encouraging industry to use it.
Guidance on the handling of disposable nappies will be set out in a revised version of the Health and Safety Advisory Commission document, entitled "Safe Disposal of Clinical Waste", which is due to be published later this year.
