§ Sir Teddy TaylorTo ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if the earnings top-up system operating in particular areas of low income will be reviewed in consequence of the introduction of the working families tax credit. [35937]
§ Mr. Field[holding answer 24 March 1998]: I have been asked to reply.
Earnings Top-up is a pilot scheme running in eight areas. It is aimed at helping people without dependent children enter and remain in work. The pilots were introduced in October 1996 and are due to conclude in October 1999.
The pilots will be evaluated and a decision on the future of Earnings Top-up will be taken in the light of the evaluation evidence and the circumstances of the time.
