To ask the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport how many staff are employed at the head office of the Historic Royal Palaces agency; what percentage this represents of total staff; what percentage of staff are based in the south-east of England; what are running costs of the head office; and what percentage of total salary and running costs this figure represents. 100 staff are employed at head office which is 19.8 per cent. of the total staff, all of whom are based in the south-east of England. The running costs of the head office are expected to be £2.62 million in 1997–98 which is 22.9 per cent. of the total running costs. Head office comprises the Chief Executive's office, Central Finance, and Personnel Services, and the Curatorial and Surveyor of the Fabric's Departments. Running costs comprise pay, recruitment, training, travel and expenses, consultancies and the employment of agency staff.
