§ Mrs. Liddell[holding answer 23 March 1998]: Since January 1997, the Treasury has received some 7,000 letters and postcards on Third World Debt. This includes over 1,600 postcards that have been received in response to the Christian Aid Campaign on Third World debt.
125WThe total amount of money that has been received from the public towards reducing the debts of poor countries is over £6,300. We have arranged that this money be used to help write off the debts owed to the UK by Tanzania.
