§ Clare ShortMy Department is continuing to work closely with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to ensure that the Government of Uganda are aware of the importance Her Majesty's Government place on multipartyists being given an adequate opportunity to present their case in the run up to the 2000 Referendum.
In Uganda itself we are funding a £250,000 civic and votes education project to improve Ugandans' awareness of their democratic rights and responsibilities, and to strengthen the capacity of the Ugandan Electoral Commission.
