HC Deb 16 March 1998 vol 308 c436W
Mr. Ieuan Wyn Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions what plans he has to improve the flow of public transport on roads in urban areas in England. [34490]

Ms Glenda Jackson

The Government will announce their policies on all aspects of transport in the Integrated Transport White Paper due to be published this Spring. In the meantime, my Department is already supporting packages of integrated transport measures in the great majority of urban areas in England. £85 million have been allocated to transport packages in 1998–99 under the Transport Policies and Programme system. Improved facilities for public transport, including bus priority routes, feature in virtually all urban packages. We are also funding the development of a comprehensive bus priority network in London. £11 million are going to that project in 1998–99 alone.
