HC Deb 16 March 1998 vol 308 cc449-50W
Dr. Lynne Jones

To ask the Prime Minister if he will introduce measures to make Ministers liable for losses to the taxpayer if public assets are sold at less than their market value.[33610]

The Prime Minister

No. Such a proposal would be impractical. In selling public assets Ministers are accountable to Parliament in the normal way. The Government see no reason to change these arrangements.

This Government's approach to public-private partnerships is designed to ensure that the taxpayer's interests are fully safeguarded.
