HC Deb 16 March 1998 vol 308 c494W
Mr. Bill Michie

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if the Electricity Regulator has the power to specify that electricity companies should consult with other organisations regarding their joint response to an emergency or a potential emergency; and if she will make a statement. [34177]

Mr. Battle

The Electricity Regulator has no such power but has a duty to exercise his functions in a way which protects the interests of consumers in respect of the continuity of supply. The electricity companies do consult the emergency services and other relevant organisations, such as the media and telephone companies, regarding their joint response in an emergency.
